St. Robert Southwell uses the Complete PE approach to teaching PE. From Nursery through to Year 6, pupils experience a broad, balanced and progressive curriculum. Lessons are carefully planned to build on children’s prior learning, develop key physical skills, and introduce them to a wide range of activities including games, dance, gymnastics and athletics. Each session provides opportunities for children to think, move and reflect — combining skill practice with creativity and collaboration. PE is taught by both class teachers and our specialist staff, making use of our indoor and outdoor spaces throughout the year. Beyond lessons, pupils across KS2 are given the opportunity to partake in clubs before and after school to develop their skills further. All year groups also partake in whole-school events such as Sports Day. We also encourage leadership opportunities, with older pupils supporting the PE lead in shaping PE and supporting with planning events or leading initiatives. Every child is encouraged to take part, improve, and enjoy being active in their own way. We are Part of the Brent Sports Partnership, building links with other schools and partaking in numerous competitions, leagues and festivals against other schools via this partnership.Â
Teachers and staff use their professional judgement to assess in line with Complete PE over each half term. This information supports our children throughout the year and as they progress through the school.
