Prayer and Liturgy At St. Robert Southwell
At St Robert Southwell every opportunity for prayer and liturgy in our school offers a meaningful encounter with the living God. Prayer and Liturgy at St Robert Southwell encourages pupils to take part in a conscious, active, and meaningful way, leading to a deeper and more fruitful encounter with Christ (Christ at the Centre, 2012).
Acts of prayer and worship at our school take place in a variety of forms. These are enriched and supported by our learning environments, which reflect and celebrate the school’s Catholic identity, faith and mission.
Our full Prayer and Liturgy Policy is attached below along with ‘To Love you More Dearly’ the Prayer and Liturgy directory for Catholic Schools.

Prayer and Worship in the Classroom
At St Robert Southwell, class based collective worship is a special part of the school week and is part of our weekly collective worship timetable. We encourage both teacher led and pupil led collective worship sessions dependent on the age and stage of the children.
An example of Collective Worship in Year 2 (Celebration of the Word).

During our time of gathering, we made the Sign of the Cross and came together quietly as a class community. A green cloth was placed at the front to mark Ordinary Time, and the candles were lit to help create a calm and prayerful atmosphere as we began our collective worship.

Reading scripture from the Gospel of Luke 18: 1 – 8. The Wednesday Word helped us choose the reading.

We discussed what we could learn from the passage. We discussed the word prayer and how important it is to pray. We can pray any time anywhere. We said the Our Father together.

Our message today was ‘Go forth and pray for the World’.
